From 11 to 15 August 2025, DTU Sustain at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) hosted a specialised educational programme on bricks and masonry in Lyngby, Denmark. The programme provided an opportunity for professionals to expand their knowledge of masonry materials, their technical performance and their role in sustainable construction.
The programme covered the properties and performance of masonry materials, including moisture behaviour, structural principles, durability and the assessment of building damage. It combined expert lectures with practical activities and laboratory work, offering insights into the characteristics and applications of different masonry materials.
Sustainability was an important theme, with attention to recycled bricks, the reuse of existing masonry structures and approaches to reducing the environmental impact of construction materials. These topics highlighted opportunities to improve resource efficiency, reduce construction waste and apply circular economy principles in the built environment.
The programme formed part of a broader set of GREENCO-related knowledge transfer activities organised through professional and industry events in Croatia, Serbia and Denmark, complementing knowledge transfer through the project's official professional training programme. These activities engaged a wide range of construction-sector stakeholders and contributed to raising awareness and strengthening competencies related to sustainable construction, environmental assessment methodologies, and emerging regulatory and market requirements.
By connecting academic expertise with practical applications and industry needs, such activities support GREENCO's broader objective of advancing education and knowledge transfer for the green transformation of the construction sector.
