Presentation at Mineral Forum 2025 on Secondary Raw Materials in Cement and Concrete Production
On 13 November 2025, Assoc. Prof. Marijana Serdar from the University of Zagreb Faculty of Civil Engineering presented “Use of Secondary and Alternative Raw Materials in Cement and Concrete Production” at Mineral Forum 2025, held in Zagreb, Croatia.
Organised by Business Media Croatia and Construction.hr by Mineral & Gradnja, the forum brought together representatives of science, industry and other sectors to discuss sustainable management of mineral resources, technological developments in construction materials and the future of the construction industry.
The presentation addressed the potential of secondary and alternative raw materials to reduce the environmental impact of cement and concrete production. Examples discussed included fly ash and metallurgical slag, which can be used as valuable secondary resources in construction materials. Their application can help reduce waste disposal, conserve natural resources and support lower-emission construction practices.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of material standardisation, research and collaboration between scientific institutions, industry and regulatory bodies to enable wider adoption of innovative and sustainable construction materials.
The topic is closely aligned with GREENCO’s objectives of promoting sustainable construction and strengthening knowledge transfer between research and industry in support of the green transition.
